Information for Consumers

What is a Community Visitor and What Do We Do?

A Community Visitor is a person who looks into and tries to resolve any complaints, concerns, or problems that people may have with mental health treatment and care.

Community Visitors visit Cowdy Ward in Darwin monthly and the Mental Health Unit in Alice Springs every fortnightly. Community Visitors will also visit consumers at their request, either in the ward or in the community at other times.

The Community Visitor's job is to try to resolve any problems, complaints or concerns that people have about their care and treatment. This is achieved by looking at paperwork or records and talking to everyone involved.
